soulful bass

Posted in MP3

Hemlock recordings is yr selectors new slippers, new moss and titanium color-way, all the privilege of volcanic action, with ash, spark, and tectonic adjustments.
Hemlock records is three releases deep, from the shimmering fog bricks of london; brought to you by Untold and designer Andy Hemlock this is a label which states “soulful bass” as its manifest, and all three releases hinge and stretch along a molten blue heat of it.
Hemlock releases stir with the same glittery grey brush as Burial, senses of some collapse coupled with an indomitable need for beauty. Where Burial swims in a london sunk under de-tuned history and pixelated genre, Hemlock recordings run dangerous and light. In the punishing and gorgeous debut “Yukon” from Untold tight, propellant bass roots give a massive launch pad to rippling clangs, growing like tin ferns into bright, sketchy pulses, and left to draft they stretch and snap until the beat hiccups and gasps, swallowing them with vigorous remnants of broken fills back into the sublight of genetic possibilty, hidden twists in protien code, the music of molten trees and metal clouds.

The most recent of Hemlocks drops is the insanely listenable duo of the Fantastic Mr. Fox & Rich Reason, who claim as influences “music we like, and also some we don’t”. yr selector is pleased with this, but counts as a like the almost Native Tongues era glitchy dubstep they present here, all angels with carbon-fibre glocks.

In an interview with Sonic Router (with an exclusive mix, a must-get) Untold is asked about the tribal implications of his works, and what he would do if ever left to the rain forest:

“I could see it working – A typical day would go something like this:

•Rise at dawn to play bongos
•Bare hunting, fishing, rituals, etc.
•Wild boar hog roast for lunch
•Canoe race
•More drums, nose flutes, dancing, fire.
•Bedtime

One of those Mosquito Coast style ice cube makers would be touch too.”

Hemlock recording artists are officially invited to the Wreck Center to engage in any of the above.
